  • Revisiting places of fieldwork with our Mexican colleague, Magdalena Villarreal;
  • Informal discussions with men and women in the villages, with lenders (informal lenders, microfinance institutions);
  • Main topics: diversity of finance and labour landscape, social meaning of labour and finance, gender aspects of labour and finance, relations with microfinance institutions.

Objective:

  • 16 cases studies of microfinance clients who seem to be over-indebted; over the last 5 years they lost assets and are more indebted; clients have been chosen among a sample of 400 households (longitudinal survey 2004-2006-2009);
  • Questions: What are the reasons of increased financial vulnerability? How people experience financial vulnerability?

Over-indebtedness - Quantitative analysis
